Back To The Future

Each September, the Hagerty Drivers Foundation partners with the Library of Congress archives and other agencies to host a series of events on the National Mall. Held every Saturday in September, it’s called Cars at the Capitol. Each Saturday morning features a different theme and we were fortunate enough to catch one with great Hollywood history.

They were displaying the 1981 De Lorean DMC-12 time machine hero car used in the 1985 hit Back To The Future.

The one on the case is the movie car. The others are replicas built out of stock De Loreans.

It drew quite a crowd and was a fun unscheduled stop. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. This is why we travel – to make discoveries and to learn. I went for the history and found an artifact from my childhood!

  2. A local guy here in Durango had a Delorean in the 1990s, but I don’t know if it’s still around. I got a look at it, but don’t think he gave me a ride. A guy in San Diego gave me a ride in a Lamborghini once upon a time, though!
