This winter has been unseasonably warm here in southern Ohio. While we would normally expect daily highs in the twenties or thirties, we’ve mostly been in the fifties and sixties for a while. Thursday will be 76 degrees.
I tell you that to say this.
Our spring flowers and shrubs are confused.
I plucked this little daffodil from my yard last night and brought her to a vase inside. There are at least a dozen more ready to bloom today or tomorrow.
This cartoon comes to mind this week.

These gals typically bloom in late March or early April so this feels super early. This is what we call “fool’s spring” so I’m trying not to get too attached to the idea that the earth is stirring to life.
Meanwhile, when you’re in the presence of a daffodil, the appropriate response is to smile. So I’ll just keep smiling.
NY has not been experiencing that unusual warmth. We are still getting 30s and low 40s during the day. Below freezing at night. But less snowfall in my area than normal.
Sigh. I am so sad we aren’t having a decent winter. Where’s the snow?
We are under a winter weather advisory for today and tomorrow. Snow accumulates of up to 8 inches.
Stay warm!!!
BAHAHAHA that cartoon is hilarious. My tulip bulbs are going to be saying that to each other in a few weeks, because we’ve also been unseasonably warm and they’re coming in already!
Lol. This cartoon always makes me smile because I’m sure it’s true!
Wow! That is an early flower. We still have over a foot of snow over much of the ground, though it has been about 50 the past few days. We’re expecting some snow tomorrow.
Wow. It was 72 here today and five more daffodils had opened. How drastically different!
That cartoon!!!! I’m dying!
And I love this: when you’re in the presence of a daffodil, the appropriate response is to smile.
I just looked out the window and I see one yellow head all by herself out there! I will rescue her later when I go out.
Ooh! Yes! She will brighten your space and provide good company! Daffodils are such happy, cheerful flowers. They really do brighten the world!
