Pencil Sharpener Museum

pencil sharpenerI’m a fan of the roadside oddity. This week I visited one close to home – the Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum in Logan. This is a tiny, tiny museum for a real big collection.

The museum began as a retirement project for Mr. Johnson back in 1989. There are over 3,400 pencil sharpeners ranging from the crank style we all used in school to fun ones shaped like cars, animals and globes. Some I recognized from my own youth. Some are just pretty cool to look at.

I could tell you more but I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.

The Pencil Sharpener Museum is located adjacent to the Hocking Hills Visitors Center on St. Rt. 664 in Logan, Ohio. If you’re in town, be sure to pop by the visitors center and look at the pencil sharpeners. There is no admission and the visitors center has nice restrooms, an important detail for anyone who is traveling.
