“Imagine being excited because of who you are.” 

I read this message on a billboard somewhere one day. The point of the billboard eludes me but I’ve carried the idea around with me since. We are inundated with advertising that tells us we aren’t good enough. We need a flashy car, expensive mascara, a new phone and a bigger house just to be good enough. It’s a race to success, a stampede to be better. And for what?

Me, being excited because of who I am.

So what if my phone is a few years old? So what if I drive a nerd mobile?

Life isn’t about the car, the phone or anything else that women’s magazines and television advertising tells us. It’s about who we are and what we choose to do with our lives.

I have great adventures. I’m funny and smart. I am happy.

Don’t get me wrong. I believe in always striving to be better, always trying to learn and grow and improve. But never lose sight of who you are and the things that really make you happy.

Be excited because of who you are.
