This biplane picture makes me think of happier days. Days of adventure and blue skies and the freedom to have places to roam and see.
When life gets rough it’s important to stop for a moment and remember something that makes you happy. Anything will do. A special person or a vacation or a morning spent listening to birdsong might be yours. Remembering that you have cheesecake in the fridge might make you happy too!
With so much cancelled and on hold, with so many people angry, hurt and dying, with so many feeling economic strain, with so many struggling in their own ways, it’s hard to not be overwhelmed and depressed by the weight of it all.
But you can train your brain to look for the good, to gravitate toward the positive and that’s what I like to do. Perspective is everything.
So I’ll ask. What’s your happy thought today? Visualize it, revisit this thought as often as you can and hold it dearly.
I tend to have a more stoic approach to things: be aware of what’s wrong, be mentally prepared for the worst, and then you can be placid. I don’t know that it always works for me though!
Oh, I am very mindful of all that is wrong and spend a fair amount of time trying to predict and prevent problems in my life. But I do what I can to address an issue and try to go back to finding happy.
These last few weeks with all the racism and genuine lack of caring for others in my own Facebook feed has left me worn out. Sigh.
I think about the wildlife I see each day. They have a precarious existence, but you’d never know it. I also recall some special moments I’ve had roaming the southwest that I love so much.
I love that! Do you have a favorite area to roam in the southwest? I’ve never been to that part of the country so I like to hear about it from locals.
Sounds like you’re familiar with Utah, which counts. I like roaming the untrammeled areas. I did a lot of that with my field biology work. The Mojave desert is a favorite for that. Don’t go to Joshua Tree NP. Go to Mojave National Preserve instead. They have more Joshua trees and a fraction of the visitors.
Oh, good to know!!! Thank you!!
