I recently read an article that suggested children who spend time in green spaces think of nature as a magical place. The article suggested these kids will grow up to be adults who want to protect nature, who will revere it.
Those who do not have this time outdoors tend to dislike the natural world or find it irrelevant.
This makes sense to me and supports my own observations of the world.
If you have kids, I sincerely hope you expose them to nature when they’re young. Being in nature makes me feel peaceful and balanced. It makes me feel stronger and yet small in the world. It is an endless source of amazement, beauty, and entertainment.
I learn so much every time I spend time outdoors- especially when I hike. There is hope in the dirt. It is from the earth that flowers bloom, that life grows. It really is magical.
Have you walked the Storybook Trail at Great Seal Park? Yeah…it’s for kids, but who cares?
Don’t we all have “that little kid inside”, just itching to get out?
It’s a magical little woods.
No but I need to do that. It’s practically in my backyard and I just haven’t made time to go. I’ll add this to my fall bucket list. Good idea!
There is a lot of research around the benefit of being in nature, it’s so interesting! I have ADHD and there is some research that shows that being in nature helps reduce ADHD symptoms for a while afterwards, especially helping with attention regulation and motivation. I definitely experience this myself. Often if I’m feeling frustrated or overwhelmed with everything I can spend a few hours in the woods and feel 100x better afterwards. We truly under appreciate the benefits of nature.
Nature has a calming effect and helps me focus so it makes perfect sense that it would help with your ADJD!
