Yesterday was a banner day. I went from no glasses at all to no line bifocals. I picked them up in the afternoon and wore them in a few stores and around home last night but still haven’t gotten my bearings.
Reading is fine and activity on my phone is ok but – gee whiz – walking around is a chore!!!
I’m told that it’s important to turn your head instead of just moving your eyes so I’m practicing that. Meanwhile, I’m a little sea sick. Actually, I feel like a drunk person at sea if I turn my head too quickly!!
And those of you who have bifocals will understand when I say that looking down when I walk is a super bad idea.
The doctor’s office told me to wear them as much as possible and to keep working at it until I find my sweet spot. Friends say that it will take a couple of weeks but it will simply click one day. A few have horror stories but I’m choosing to believe that I’ll be seeing better in no time.
I’m also hopeful that I won’t fall on my head trying to figure it out. Have advice? I’m open to your ideas!
I had to get glasses like these in my 40s. It does make you feel a little sick trying to get used to them but yes, it takes a few days if you wear it daily. Longer if you dont
I am home today and plan to wear them as much as I can. It sounds like consistency and fortitude will serve me well in helping my brain adapt. Wish me luck!!
What a nice photo! Your new glasses really look good on you. I think you made a very good choice for the frames. I’m sure you’ll quickly adapt. …Cailín
Thank you!! The ladies there were super helpful when it came to choosing frames and I’m pleased with them.
So far I’ve managed to avoid bifocals so I don’t have wisdom to share. I wear contacts and carry +1.5 reading glasses. When my contacts are out and I wear my regular glasses, I just remove them to read!
I envy your ability to wear contacts. I can’t handle anything coming near my eyes.
Those are very attractive! I have gradient lenses that I need to read, use the computer, and other up-close tasks. I’ve never felt comfortable walking around in them (and don’t need them then) so I just take them off if it’s more than a short stroll. Probably not helpful advice!
Thank you!!! I am doing ok with reading and computer work although it is still a struggle sometimes. I have been wearing them to walk around my house and the office but am not at all comfortable. I suspect that it may always be that way but will keep trying!
