The changing seasons and natural world are a favorite topic of mine. There’s nothing more refreshing than the start of a new season and all the unique qualities that come with it. Time in nature teaches you to appreciate the progression of change, even those that many think are unpleasant.
I look forward to the progression of seasons – even the dreaded summer that I dislike so much. Something else I anticipate is the change in my home.
I like to regularly update the look of my home simply by rearranging and recycling things I already own. So the couches and chairs and big things stay the same but embellishments change regularly. This gets ramped up in fall when I drag out the pumpkins and owls, cozy blankets and candles in oranges, browns and shades of dark blues, purples and green. I actually own more fall decor than most normal people have for Christmas.
This year, my tastes have changed slightly and I began incorporating more wood and rattan, lending new textures to my happy surroundings.
The current state of things here is that I’m dying to decorate for Christmas but am holding off until Thanksgiving leftovers have been carried out the door.
What happens Thursday night – well – let’s just say there are no guarantees that I won’t be dragging Christmas decorations out of the closet. I have enough stuff, including full sized trees, to decorate every room. With Scout on the prowl and excited to chew on artificial pine, I have to be mindful and careful of his safety so there won’t be a lot of trees. Instead, there will be more soft things, window garlands, tablescapes and shelf sitters to pull holiday cheer into my entire home.
As I’m excited for the coming winter season, I can hardly wait to cozy up my home and make it festive. I’m also excited to see how my changing tastes manifest into Christmas decor this year.
Trust that whatever happens, it will change and improve as I play with my surroundings throughout the holidays!
When do you decorate for Christmas? Early? Late? When you get around to it? This is a judgment free space so tell me all about it!
Normally, there is no Christmas decorating for me until Thanksgiving is over. I do not want to overshadow Thanksgiving – it’s a most important holiday! This year, with us volunteering in our RV, I brought along my mother’s favorite wreath to hang somewhere. That may be it, or perhaps I will pick up a few items at the Dollar Tree. While I always enjoy decorating and the results, in a way, I’m looking forward to a simpler year, this year.
Perhaps just a little two foot tree with some ribbon and lights? I enjoy decorating so it would be hard for me to give it up completely even for a life of adventure in an RV!
I have to marvel that you have space to store all your seasonal decor. Converted a spare bedroom, did you?😉 I have a silk flower arrangement that I change outa few times a year for the season. It’ll be a couple weeks before Christmas stuff comes out.
Haha…. Kind of. I have a room that I call my craft room. This is where all the decor, craft stuff and project supplies live. Sometimes it’s tidy bit it’s typically just a mess.
I typically put up my Christmas decorations in the beginning of December, but this year I got a much earlier start. The only thing I have left to do is the tree, but we’ll be picking it up this weekend. I love that you have enough stuff to decorate every room! My cat loves to eat the artificial pine too, which is one of the reasons we get a real tree every year.
I enjoy the years when I can start early. I got all the totes out of the closet but didn’t drag out the trees yet. Perhaps Operation Holiday Cheer can start tomorrow night!!
I put lights on 4 large trees outside, so that started going up a week ago and is only half done, but except for testing, won’t be lit until this coming weekend.
Indoors, things will probably start appearing next week, but some of it may not make it out until the very last minute. On the other hand, the Christmas village at will probably be out until nearly Easter, so no rush. 😉
Haha. I have a friend who sent everyone Valentines one year because she couldn’t get her act together in time to deal with the Christmas cards sitting in a bag on her kitchen counter.
Your village timeline seems reasonable to me!
I hope you will share a few images of your festive holiday decorating with us! Enjoy the adventure!
I’ll see what I can do!
