Talk To Locals When You Travel

This snapshot is a great reminder of why it’s a good idea to talk with locals when you travel. My friend Nichola and I sat at the counter in this Pittsburgh diner for breakfast one morning this fall. When Nichola asked the waitress if they were known for something specific, our neighbor piped up and recommended chocolate chip blueberry pancakes.

We took his advice and did not regret it. They were delicious and you could tell that he felt good because we had listened to him.

Chocolate chip and blueberry may not be the most logical combination but it really does make sense. It also wasn’t on the menu but this gentleman, clearly a regular, knew something we didn’t know.

I am not always in the mood to have a conversation with strangers. But you never know what someone might say and what you might learn about a place when you chat with folks who know a  place well.

If you’re on The Strip in Pittsburgh and looking for an authentic local diner, Deluca’s Diner is a great option. You can read all about it here.
