If You’re Lucky

If you’re lucky, your life will be a bit of a journey. There will be ups and downs and some unexpected detours. You’ll go places sometimes and occasionally feel like you’re standing still.

Every day won’t be great or fun. Some days will be downright hard. If you’re lucky, there will be adventure and, if you’re lucky, there will be some quiet too.

It’s nice when there’s balance and planning. But you know something? Odds are pretty good that you won’t always feel like you’re in control. You’ll feel like you’re along for the ride.

And you know something else? That’s not always a bad thing.

I stopped for gas a while back and noticed this scruffy little dog peering at me while waiting for his owner to come back. He looks like the type that would enjoy having the wind in his ears and a good old fashioned joy ride around town.

I was in a hurry to get somewhere and he seemed to be laughing at me as I rushed to start the car.

Silly human. Enjoy the journey, he seemed to say.

And that’s what I’m telling you as well. Whether today is good, bad or indifferent and whether you’re moving forward or standing still, enjoy this day and wherever it takes you.

Watched

I was in the car, reviewing my shopping list, when it suddenly felt like I was being watched. That’s when I spotted this guy.

I don’t know what was going on but it appears he wasn’t having it. I’m hoping they stopped for ice cream on the way home to brighten his day!

From The Car Window

Sometimes the things we see in passing or from afar are just as interesting as those things we set out to see.

We were headed to Manhattan College at the time, having just enjoyed a bird’s eye view of New York City from Summit. As stunning as the high view was, I liked this one too. The city infrastructure is interesting and I liked the sidewalk action. They say people look like their pets and this seems true in this case where both canines and humans are so tall and slender.

The next time you’re out and about, pay attention to your surroundings. Look closer at the things that you typically consider eyesores or just part of the background. There’s a lot to be seen and adventure is just around the corner.

Doggy Smiles

While waiting for curbside lunch pickup yesterday, I turned to see this cute little guy in the front seat of this car. When I rolled down my window for a phone picture, the fella in back popped up to mug for the camera too.

When I told them to smile for a picture, this is what happened. The little guy smiled first.

And then the big fellow.

Sometimes the surprises we find while out and about help to soften the edges of our stressful lives. These fellows don’t know or care about the world’s problems. They were just pleased to meet a stranger, to enjoy a light breeze, and for their owner to come back after running inside for her order.

Life isn’t so bad when you think about it that way and are glad for what you have.
