Road Tripping Red

Both Friday and Saturday allowed some free time for backroads wandering. These two days resulted in some wonderful memories and good fodder to share here. I wanted to start with this series of images.

This car was parked outside an establishment near Athens and I couldn’t resist whipping in for some pictures!

Check out the rocket lights!

And of course the fuzzy dice and hula girl!

Imagine road tripping in this beast! Remember what I said last month about red things? There was a similar car in the same parking lot but it was a different, sort of gold color. I didn’t even give it a second look but this flashy red left me practically drooling!

Who knows what kind of car this is?

Post Covid Bucket List: Car Shows

I just did a bucket list item yesterday but we can do two days in a row.

I’m dying to hit a classic car show. My apologies to all of you who take your modern cars to shows. I’m sure they’re great but my heart belongs to the old vehicles. If it has tail fins and lots of chrome or even if it’s not perfect but is pre-1970 with great patina – I’m in.

With all the festivals and events being cancelled this year, I suspect it will be hard to find a good car show in the area this year but we can hope!

The pictures here come from a car show in Logan, Ohio last year. It was a warm, sunny evening and there was plenty to see.

This is from the interior of the car pictured above.

And then there’s this great old Dodge truck and a VW van!

The VW isn’t perfect but I did not care. When it comes to classic cars, it’s easy to forgive flaws because they have great character!

By the way, a car show is a great place to play with your camera. The owner expects people to gawk and take pictures so there’s no judgement. And while you can sometimes hear a great story or two, having others hanging around takes the pressure off of you to visit for too long.

Just look out for all the reflections in that shiny chrome. Sometimes you can capture architecture or another interesting detail. However, if you’re not careful you might bring home images of a stranger’s knee cap or something equally distressing reflected in a wheel.

A Smashed Peep (and some other stuff)

I ran away for a long lunch Thursday. Basking in the sunshine and walking the bike path at a favorite park felt like the epitome of freedom. Everything is COVID closed but you can still walk and drive around the lake.

This car turned my head.

And I went back for a closer look at these Peep bunnies, clearly run over by something. That’s not something you see every day and I liked the pink against the asphalt!

It was gorgeous out so I was sad to go home and resume working. But opening the window in the room where I work to let Scout enjoy the fresh air made the afternoon pass quickly. This picture was taken before the window was open but you get the idea.

He was a happy boy and I was thrilled for the fresh breeze and chatter of birds nearby.

My world has become very small and familiar. While this isn’t ideal, it is sort of fun to look more closely at your surroundings and seek out the details you might not ordinarily appreciate or even notice as close as your own home. Take a look around. You never know what you might find.
