Comic genius Red Skelton always said that he couldn’t get into character without the right hat. What an inspiring idea. To think that something as simple as an accessory can help us find a part of ourselves!

I love hats and have a little collection of them. Sadly, they rarely made it out of the closet until kind of recently. A new friend has encouraged me to wear them and so I have. If it’s the weekend, chances are I’m rocking a hat and, I have to say, I really do feel better for it. Newsboys are my favorite but I’m working on trying different styles.

Funny thing is that you don’t see a lot of women wearing hats anymore. I’ve noticed that when I do encounter another lady in a hat, we share a kind of camaraderie. Maybe because there are so few of us. Maybe because we recognize a kindred spirit when we see one.

Whatever it is, I wish more ladies wore hats and that more men wore hats other than ball caps. It’s a fun accessory that makes the right outfit look a little more polished and that nicely compensates for messy hair on a windy day!
