This spring has found me in a reading slump. I’m usually pretty good at snapping out of it but I just can’t seem to quiet my mind enough to focus or enjoy anything.
I respond well to a good challenge so I have been working on my own for the last couple of weeks and thought I would share it with you:
1. A book you’ve been meaning to read for a while.
2. A book you chose for the cover.
3. A children’s or middle grade book.
4. An audio book (you can find some great stuff on YouTube for free)
5. A book that won an award.
6. A book recommended by a friend.
7. Reread a classic that you read in school.
8. A genre that’s outside your norm.
What are you reading? I could use some inspiration and you might be able to help me with number six!
My wife and I have released our published books as free PDF downloads. Please let me know if you are interested; I can provide direct links to them. 🙂
I would love that!
How have you both been? Enjoying your New England summer?
Thank you for your interest! My wife has her books here, and my latest book, Only The Moon Understands The Beauty Of Love.
It has been a busy summer, as I purchased our farm in 2020 with the intention of fully customizing our home and property. I’m still working on the place, but it’s slowly coming along and starting to really feel like home. These things take time, but my wife and I are happy. 🙂
I’m glad to know you are happy. The thing about home ownership is that even when it’s done, it’s never really done. Lol. Enjoy the process!
Thank you for these links. I’ll finish up what I’m reading now and have a look!!
Oh I’m well aware… This is owned house #3 for me. 😉

An amazing book we read for a club last month was “Every Day is a Gift” by Tammy Duckworth. She’s about the most amazing woman I’ve encountered in a very long time. Iraq veteran and US senator from Illinois.
Eilene! Great idea! I saw an interview with her around the time that was released and she was inspiring.
I’m guessing this is very much a #8, but I just started reading “Argus : Fine American Cameras” It is the definitive history of that camera company. Not sure if it is available to the general public yet, but I’ve known the authors for a long time and got one of the 1st copies.
I do enjoy nonfiction and cameras+history might be good for me. Thank you!!
I recommend “West with Giraffes”. It should get you out of a slump. Outstanding, quick read based on a true story of a pair of giraffes who were transported from New York City to San Diego by truck in 1939.
Well that sounds interesting. I’m trying to imagine what that road trip looked like! Thanks for the recommendation and thanks for stopping by!
Google it. There are a few photos on the Internet. I hope you enjoy it!
I added the book to my list. Thanks!
I just got myself out of a reading slump too – you’re right that sometimes it’s kind of hard to get back into it! Sounds like you’re going about it in a good way though! I just finished Yellowface by R.F. Kuang, which was pretty good, and now I’m reading Dopesick by Beth Macy, and Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand, along with some of my typical historical works 🙂
Oh, you read more than one at once! Good for you. I struggle to do that because I lose enthusiasm and never finish anything. Yellowface sounds good. I should add that to my list.
