Mount Pleasant

For a panoramic view of Lancaster, take a short hike up Mount Pleasant in Rising Park.

The approximate 250 foot tall sandstone bluff can be reached by a beautiful hiking trail seemingly straight up the mountain. It’s a fantastic workout and the reward is an incredible view of the city.

I went up there on a whim Saturday and realized that I see something different every time I go. It was also fun people watching, stomping through the woods and exploring on some of the rocks.

It would be a great place to take a light lunch or to watch the sunset.

Rising Park has a lot to offer including tennis, horseshoes, shelter houses, a pretty pond and plenty of shady places to stop for a picnic or to just relax.

Rising Park is located at 1120 North High Street in Lancaster, not far from the fairgrounds and from downtown Lancaster.

Sunny Skies, Flashy Cars

A pretty blue sky day is the perfect time to spot classic car. Seeing them at a car show is fun but seeing them in their natural environment out on the road is better.

As pretty as this Plymouth is, she sounded amazing too. I hope that people who own these cars know how much joy they bring to others when they’re out cruising.

The Open Road

The open road is calling my name. There’s a little road trip on the agenda this fall and I seriously cannot wait. It has been a long, hard year close to home and it is time to see some new things.

I’m hopeful that the social distancing and other Covid safety tactics I already employ will help me stay safe while out traveling.

This picture gives me hope. Blue skies, a fabulous barn and open road- what more could a gal want?

Think Outside The Tent

Scout likes to gather his favorite toys in one place and play with them all at one time. Here he has his Shark tunnel (best $6 ever spent), a Hot Wheels car shaped like a dinosaur, and his tent which was a gift from my coworker’s cat.

You’ve heard of thinking outside the box? He likes to think outside the tent!

He often takes mousies into his tent and stretches out as pictured here.

It’s shocking how fast he can jump out from this position and nab your leg. It’s actually a little scary how good his reflexes are. More than anything, it’s delightful to see how happy he is playing with these things.

We all could learn something from Scout. He doesn’t need fancy new toys to be happy. His old stuff, a patch of sunlight, and the occasional wad of paper liberated from the office trash can are enough to fill his day with joy.

Starting The Weekend On The Right Foot

This weekend began last night with a quick hike at the lake. A parade of distractions, bad weather and all sorts of problems kept me off the trail this week so it felt particularly good to go out and play.

It was not quite sixty degrees and I delighted in the crunch of leaves beneath my feet as well as the sounds of a few stray Canada Geese soaring over the lake.

Fall has arrived.

Soon it will be too dark to hike after work so we must make hay while we can. After months of summer heat, it’s a relief to layer up and breath crisp, autumn air.

Aren’t these mushrooms unusual?

The beautiful thing about living in a place with four distinct seasons is that there are constant changes to your surroundings and always something new to see. So even when you’re hiking the same trail, you’ll still see new things!

Happiness Is…..

Happiness is having something to look forward to. Along this vein, I ordered stamps so that I can do a better job of sending cards and letters to friends.

These arrived in the mail this week, little squares of artwork that enable me to send communications from my mailbox to someone else’s.

I practically did a cartwheel in the road.

It takes so little to make me happy and I’m fine with that.
