Favorite Trees And Fading Sunset

We have enjoyed a long run of gorgeous fall days. That all ends today when it turns rainy and cooler. Tomorrow will be rainy and cold, ushering in what appears to be a long patch of cooler days and cold nights.

The rain isn’t so thrilling but it’s hard to get excited about the impending holidays when it’s 68 degrees and sunny. So I’m kind of excited to see the mercury drop and maybe stop being such a grinch. All the same, I took advantage of yesterday’s sunshine with a short walk after work at Kinnikinnick Fen near Chillicothe. I have favorite trees everywhere I go and the picture above shows one of them at the Fen.

When I came home last night, the western sky was aglow with the remnants of sunset. You can see in the silhouette that the trees have lost their leaves. These are some of my favorite trees here at home – with or without their foliage.

It was a remarkable end to the day and to this streak of fine fall days. Better pack your umbrella and put on those galoshes if you’re out and about today. You will need them!

Health And Gratitude

This hasn’t been a banner week for me. I’m doing better (thanks to those of you who have expressed concern. I’ll live!) but I’m not up to par.

This week, I have worked and slept and haven’t done much else. There has been no exercise, no household chores, no projects, no blog posts.

While I feel a bit like a slug this week, I’m ok with it. We can’t be 100% everywhere all the time. My energy is mostly getting used up at the place that pays my bills and, for this week, that’s most important.

Something else that’s important is gratitude for good health. Feeling a little under the weather is a temporary problem but always a helpful reminder to be grateful for the days we are well.

Under The Weather

These last two days have found me under the weather. Just so you know – I’m terrible at being sick.

Life is better when you’re up and moving. Whether on the go anod doing fun stuff or staying home and puttering around the house – life is better when you are able to do something.

I am not a Netflix and chill girl. It is rare to find me just hanging out on the couch with a snack and the tv. There’s always a chore, a book, a hobby or something else more entertaining than just sitting around.

I spent yesterday in bed thinking of all the things I would do if I felt better. I scrolled Pinterest while Scout napped at my feet and Law and Order played in the background.

The whole day was so out of character that Scout was clearly worried. He hardly left my side, occasionally biting at my feet or grabbing at my arm in a sweet attempt at coaxing me back onto my feet. Doesn’t he look worried?

My Pinterest activities cracked me up because I was all over the place. If you aren’t familiar, Pinterest is a type of social media where you can find, upload and save images and links that inspire you on virtual boards.

Watercolor tutorials, gluten free vegetarian recipes, inspiring quotes, writing tips, photography challenges, winter wardrobe images, decluttering challenges, and ideas for transforming my dining room into a library were among the things that caught my eye.

It occurred to me that my interests are vast. I badly wanted to get up and clean out my closet, paint a picture, reorganize my kitchen and make something good for dinner. Instead, I stayed put, ate frozen pizza and read some.

Today is a new day. Here’s hoping it is more productive.

Foggy Mornings

We had some remarkably foggy mornings this week. While I work a hybrid schedule, I was out driving around two of these mornings. Both days, I found myself inches from hitting deer and thanking my lucky stars that they didn’t come through my windshield. There’s nothing like a near miss in the dark to wake you up.

These images come from the Lake Rupert area on one of those days. It was about 9:30 a.m. and just starting to lighten up. I actually pulled over here to get my bearings after one of those near misses with a deer. When I looked up, it was just too pretty to not reach for my iPhone. It was a nice silver lining to the proverbial dark cloud.

You know how I enjoy reflections.

It’s good to know that, even in the fog, there’s opportunity to find something soft and lovely that will brighten the day.

A Broken Record

At the risk of sounding like a broken record – I hiked again last night. Yesterday was gorgeous and warm enough for short sleeves. It was too nice to be inside so I headed to Cedar Falls.

The colors were muted and it was quiet out on the trail. The people I encountered seemed like true nature lovers who moved along the trail silently rather than the noisy tourists I often encounter.

This log reminds me of the Loch Ness Monster.

The roots and rocks are incredible on this trail.

Yup. That’s the trail. Cool, right?

As always, be sure to look up every chance you get.

Speaking of looking up- it’s almost the weekend! Happy Friday!
