Monday Reminder – Life Is Short

Hello and good morning, friends. I always marvel when Monday morning rolls around so quickly as it has done this week.

Weekends are never long enough to pack in the things that need done and what we want to do. This weekend seemed especially short. It was spent close to home and was a nice balance of fun, relaxation and work around the house.

Mondays always remind me that life is short. We have a finite number of hours in this world and it’s important to use them wisely.

Do your job and do it well. If you aren’t happy, go find something you like better. Take pride in your work and in the things you do for yourself and your home.

Just remember not to get so caught up in what has to be done that you have no time to accomplish what you want to do and what makes your heart happy.

Scout didn’t wait for permission to commandeer this shelf. He seized the day and moved in the minute an opportunity presented itself. He knew what would make him happy and he took it!

Obligations are just that. You may be obliged to do them but don’t allow yourself to live such a life of servitude to other people and to the things you own that you have no time for yourself.

Go forth. Work hard. Play harder. Be the master of your own life and never stop searching for what will make your journey fun.

When We Stop Searching

It took me a year to buy a new winter coat. You read that correctly. I started shopping last November for a new coat that I can dress up or dress down.

I wanted something that hits above the knees but below the waist. It needed to be wool instead of these puffy coats everyone likes today. I wanted buttons, no hood because I prefer hats, and a little nice tailoring. It would preferably not be black or red because every coat in my possession for the last 20 years has been a variation of these colors. And no white because it would be filthy after one wear.

I do work in marketing, guys. That means manual labor on more days than you would believe.

I shopped around off and on all winter last year and never found anything I wanted to actually purchase and wear. I had all but given up and had almost resigned myself to a black puffy coat with a hood and zipper.

With this in mind, imagine my surprise on Friday night when I stopped dead in my tracks in the middle of Kohls. There it was, just hanging there on the rack waiting for me to find: a camel colored wool coat with nice buttons, no hood and some tailoring. It even fit right too!

Plus, it was on sale AND I had a coupon.

What dream world had I stumbled into?

I tell you that to tell you this:

Humans have a tendency to go searching for things. The perfect home, the ideal mate, the amazing job and, yes, sometimes just the right winter coat. As industrious as we may be in these treasure hunts for exactly what we want, it’s not always the best use of our energy.

That’s not to say we shouldn’t try but I’m convinced that what is meant for us will always happen. We end up where we belong. We meet who we are meant to know. We even eventually find that darn coat.

Pressuring ourselves won’t likely force the thing, the person or the place to manifest any more quickly than it is meant to. It will happen in a timing we aren’t meant to understand. So instead of stressing, how about we just try to put our best foot forward and be open to receive the wonderful gifts that are headed our way?

When we stop searching could be when we find what we have needed all along.

Believe It

This was my fortune last night. It followed a delicious plate of Buddha Delight. Thought provoking isn’t it?

There’s something to be said for this way of thinking. If you believe something to be true you will open your mind and your life to the developments that you seek.

So who’s with me?

Affirm it, visualize it, believe it, and it will actualize itself.

Spinning Out Of Control

My record buying has officially spun out of control.

I’ve collected off and on over the years, buying and listening to them in spurts. I might go a year without buying a single record. Right now, I can’t seem to make it a week without dragging home at least one or two. Ok. That’s a lie. More like a dozen a week. Sigh.

There’s a great little record store called Apollo over in Chillicothe and a host of nice antique malls in the area that have records. My hope to buckle down on spending this month failed miserably, mainly because of records.

My music tastes are all over the place so that hasn’t really helped to keep a handle on things either. This week’s haul included everything from classic Conway Twitty to the Flying Burrito Brothers to Paul Revere and the Raiders to eighties Ronnie Milsap.

The best part of collecting records is that you can find them in some of the oddest places for a dollar and up. The bad news is that it’s easy for them to pile up really quickly.

My goal this week is to not spend any money on records. Think I can do it?

Yeah…. I don’t either.
