No Boys Allowed

I found this on my hike the other day. It was pretty close to the middle of nowhere so it was hard to pass by – especially given that it made me giggle.

Plus, it suits my recent mood as I’ve all but given up on the idea of dating. I met someone kind of recently who I thought had potential but I was wrong. So back to my solitary life I go, wandering the backroads and trails and making pictures of all the stuff I see.

It’s a pretty good life I have and I’m frequently reminded of this by couples arguing in public and parents struggling to manage their difficult kids.

I can go anywhere I please, whenever I like and there’s no one along to say “I don’t know… where do you want to eat?” every time you have to choose a restaurant.

Here’s another fun image from that hike. In case you’re wondering, I was on the Buckeye Trail between Cedar Falls and Ash Cave. It’s an easy hike where you’ll see some wildlife and hear a lot of birds.

The Ones We Leave Behind

Urban Air

I learned this week that Urban Air is coming back to Logan this May. Imagine having your downtown taken over by several dozen Airstreams…… it’s a sight to behold, especially if you are as captivated by the romance of an Airstream as I am.

The town rolls out the red carpet for this event and there was a lot to do last year. I’m hopeful it’s just as fun this time.

Don’t worry, I’ll tell you more about the event in case you’re interested in going. I have more pictures from last year too!

Carriage Shop

You don’t have to travel very far on the National Road in Indiana to see some interesting things. Route 40 is four lane most of the way and cuts through farm country and small towns. You’ll see a lot of kitsch along the way and there are tons of antiques stores as the eastern section of this route had been branded “Antique Alley.”

This is one of many neat things I pulled over to take pictures of during my last trip through. It’s right along the highway in a cute town called Dublin.

Here’s a question – which do you prefer- color or black and white?

Welcome, Spring

“Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love.” –Sitting Bull

This image is from my four mile hike in the Hocking Hills last night. It was perfect hiking weather and a glorious day to celebrate the beginning of spring.

The Hocking Hills region is close to where I live and I know it reasonably well. I reference hiking here a good bit but wonder if anyone is interested in knowing more about the area and things to do here. If so, I’ll work on some observations to share here.

Dirt Therapy

I’ve been having a hard couple of weeks. Not sure why but I’ve been moody and struggling to snap out of it.

Luckily, the sun has been shining here in my corner of the world and I’ve made it a priority to be outside, preferably deep in the woods.

Being close to nature clears my head. I breathe better. I’m happier. Just to feel dirt and pine needles, leaves and rock under my feet makes me feel more at ease, more like myself.

I coerced a good friend into venturing out to Lake Katherine last night. He’s a good companion and doesn’t appear to mind when I stop for a picture or just to stare at water and lean against a tree.

It’s important to have people like that in your life.

I worry sometimes that I’m going to just run wild in the woods but I suppose there are worse vices!

What’s your coping mechanism? Tell me about it in the comments.
