Well, Well, Well

Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up. It’s finally Friday and the workweek is about to wrap up for us 9 to 5’ers.

I’m usually not a fan of living for the weekends but, Geeze Louise, I’ll be glad for a little rest.

But first, we must push through today and see what all we can accomplish! Friends, go forth and conquer this day and enjoy whatever will make your heart happy!

Saturday Is A Beautiful Word

Saturday is a beautiful word filled with endless possibility for us 9 to 5’ers. Sometimes we envision ourselves obliterating a to-do list, spending time on a hobby, or out exploring. My day will be a little of all of these things.

Today won’t be beautiful but it will be 44 degrees and that’s pretty warm so I’ll be going outside anyway. Fresh air is good for clearing the clutter from one’s mind and lungs.

Conditions may not be perfect but it’s the only Saturday we have this week so it’s best to seize the day and use the free time to our advantage.

If you’re watching the news, you know that life here in America has been stressful lately.

I haven’t talked about this here because I consider it my job to rise above the muck of daily living. Instead, I try to give you something positive to think about and something productive to aspire to in your own life. However, it’s important to note that humans were not designed to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders.

Whether you’re mad because you don’t understand why everyone isn’t thrilled with the direction of our government or you’re terrified because you stand with the rest of the world’s belief that the American government is on the wrong side of history, the burden is not yours to carry today.

Take a day off from the madness. Turn off the news, stop doomscrolling social media. Let it go. Even if it is just for today.

You have my permission and my encouragement. You deserve a day off.

Use today to do something you’ve been putting off or to take a long drive on roads you’ve never driven. Invite a friend for lunch or get lost in the quiet of your local library. Bundle up and sit on your porch if you can’t leave home. Nothing feels better than attacking a space to declutter and clean.

My day will include home chores, a hike, and time with my fella. I’ll be avoiding the news and will resist the world’s insistence that human beings are most valued for our wallets and consumerism. Yup, my No Spend Challenge continues in its harshest form again.

But first, we must get out of bed. So do that, have a nutritious breakfast and enjoy your Saturday. You have earned it!

This Weekend

This weekend will be one of forced rest. I hurt my ankle earlier this week and ended up making an unscheduled trip to the chiropractor yesterday. While I can walk on it, it has some issues and I’ll be spending most of this weekend with that leg  elevated.

So, I did what any rational book hoarder would do and popped into Wheatberry Books to pick up a page turner of a book to help me through my convalescence. Mind you, I could be crushed under the weight of my to be read pile but I didn’t have this book and that’s an important distinction.

I needed this book.

I was dying to get out of the car and walk around Yoctangee Park. I yearned to soak in the Autumn colors and walk through the leaves but didn’t trust myself to walk far. So I had a car picnic and enjoyed the view.

Today I’ll make a little veggie tray for snacking, use up some stray potatoes in a soup, and spend the day with my feet kicked up and a book in hand. If I’m lucky, Scout will curl up next to me to make sure I don’t get lonely.

He’s an attentive little caregiver.

Happy Saturday, friends! Stay home and be cosy or go forth and adventure. Whatever you do, enjoy your day!

The Madison Theater

Welcome to the Madison Theater. This beautiful old theater in Covington, Kentucky dates to 1912 and the days of silent film when it was called the Lyric Theater.. It later was adapted to show talkies as films with sound gained popularity. Now it’s a popular concert venue with a full schedule.

I caught a glimpse while driving down the street and was excited to stop on the way back through.

We were looking for something else but I was thrilled to take a minute to stop and admire this beautiful marquee. Do your best to never be so busy that you can’t stop to admire something fabulous along life’s journey.

It’s Friday. The weekend is near. Go enjoy fall. Live life and go around the block for a better look at some of those things that catch your eye. Make this weekend count!

This Day

Part of me says, wow, it’s Wednesday already! Part of me asks how it’s only Wednesday.

I’m in the home stretch of a big project at work and find myself experiencing time distortion. There are days when I’m so busy the hours fly by too quickly to count and others when they drag. The band Chicago asked the musical question “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” and I’m convinced it’s about someone on deadline at work.

I badly want the week to be done and badly need to slow down the clock to allow chance to keep up.

It takes some effort but I try to appreciate each day for what it is. If it’s cold and dreary, that’s an excuse to make some hot chocolate. If it’s a great day of fun and adventure, that’s even better. If it’s midweek and I’m yearning for the weekend, I try to focus on the task at hand. After all, the fact I’m working means that I’m employed. This is important because my cat expects me to give him a good life!

Besides, it could be worse. It could be Monday! Search within your soul for something to be grateful for. This day is special and something to be cherished because you’ll never get it back again. Don’t wish it away for sunshine or free time or even Saturday.

Happy Wednesday!

Happiness Is….

Happiness is blue skies, a fabulous old plane and the knowledge that it’s finally Friday. There’s no sense in wishing your life away to get to the weekend but, now that it’s nearly here, there’s nothing wrong with celebrating.

Kick up your heals and savor the moment!
